everal Mediterranean countries are suffering from water scarcity, unsustainable management of water resources, vulnerability to climate change, pollution and lack of sanitation infrastructure and suitable treatment technologies. These problems are often worsened by lack of governance and supporting legislative tools.

Increasing pressure on water resources in the region encompasses various challenges:

• Governance challenges (role of the state / private; good governance; decentralized /international cooperation; participation of civil society)
• Socio-economic challenges (distribution of water resources; choice of economic development mode; infrastructure funding)
• Ecological challenges (water pollution ; climate change ; threat to the biodiversity; desertification)
• Health challenges (sickness due to water scarcity or poor quality )
• Scientific and technical challenges (the supply efficiency improvement ; rational use of water ; desalination)
• Stability and peace challenges (conflicts; food insecurity ; migrations)

The organization of the 7th edition of the International Conference on Water Resources in the Mediterranean Basin: WATMED7 aims bringing together the competencies in the Mediterranean basin in order to mobilize innovations, knowledge and expertise for advancing the cause of water, expanding the exchange of experiences and research results and allowing to initiate regional cooperation initiatives. 

WATMED7 is an opportunity of dialogue between scientists, industries and experts to address challenges and to inspire actors in the field of water in addressing proposals of concerted actions for a better perspective of sustainable water development through the exchange of knowledge and good practices.

Submissions:

Authors are invited to submit a one-page abstract (500-1000 words) format A4, Times in English or in French before May 15, 2014 to the website of the conference: www.uca.ma/watmed7.

Accepted Abstracts will be printed in the conference proceedings ; accepted full papers will be compiled on CD rom and distributed during the conference.

The best papers will be selected by the Scientific Committee and will be published in the scientific journal: Desalination and Water Treatment Journal (DESWATER): www.deswater.com
